For many years the collective editors have relegated news of ecological concerns to the small print or back pages, even though their sister company The
\n Independent in London was printing masses of environmental information. These New Zealanders obviously continued with 'business as usual' and elected
\n not to publish most of these articles. This in supposedly a FREE country.<\/p>\n
Letter to the Editor of the New Zealand Herald sent 24\/12\/2006<\/p>\n
Thank you for finally waking up to environmental issues and having a dedicated subject headed: ENVIRONMENT.<\/p>\n
As a newspaper and user of trees that are vital as carbon sinks it is important that the NZ Herald be aware of the impact it has in the world.<\/p>\n
Fortunately your big sister, The Independent in London has been light years more advanced when it comes to planetary ecology.
\n
The online edition has been one of the most enlightened Main Stream newspapers on the planet, whilst the NZ editors up until this year lacked the discernment
\n to research for themselves that we are entering a global environmental crises. Shame on you for not thinking of our childrens future even though there
\n were numerous articles being printed in The Independent which you chose to ignore and not publish.<\/p>\n
Had the NZ Herald lead with the ideals of integrity, all NZ political parties would be far more aware of the challenges that are coming to meet us
\n today.<\/p>\n
The Government would be in a stronger position to lead the nation, offering our children a far more coherent vision of what we can do in the years
\n ahead.<\/p>\n
Now with a more astute understanding I look forward to the New Zealand Herald leading in this area.<\/p>\n
Post Script Mid May 2016. The New Zealand Herald has done its usual backslide. They are unable to put their collective heads around what is happening.
\n They in so many ways putting New Zeanders to sleep as the nation becomes 'comfortably numb.' <\/p>\n
